Chapter 339 Severed the Mother-Son Relationship
After Alaric finished speaking, the room fell silent for a long time, except for Marigold's sobbing. Hearing her
cries, Alaric felt truly annoyed. He thought, 'We could have been a harmonious family, so why does she have to
act this way?’
Alaric didn't say anything further. Marigold cried for a while, then continued, her breath unsteady, "I know you
don't like hearing what | say now, but good advice grates on the ear. I'm your mother; | won't harm you. Your
health has been deteriorating since you got married. Isn't that a fact?"
"My health issues are the aftereffects of a severe injury | had before. It has nothing to do with my marriage,"
Alaric said helplessly, "All | know is that whether before or after our marriage, Stellan has never said a bad word
about you in front of me. But you, on the other hand, have never said a good word about her. Doesn't that say
something?"
"Well, that just shows what kind of person she is," Marigold continued, her voice rising with frustration. "She
might not speak badly aboutdirectly, but she's got a knack for manipulating you, making you side entirely
with her. Isn't that even worse than talking smack about me?"
Marigold kept going on and on, while Alaric barely seemed to be listening. When he clearly ignored her, she
pressed on, "You might ignore other issues, but you can't ignore the situation with Nexus Innovations. How can it
be okay for an outsider to step in and take over as a board member? Isn't that a disaster for us? And Stellan's
secretly stirring the pot, influencing the higher-ups to vote against me. Isn't that terrifying? I've always said she
married into our family for our money, and now it's becoming clear. Getting control of Nexus Innovations is just
her first step in her plan."
"It was my decision not to let you return as acting director," Alaric said firmly. "When | was preparing for
treatment, | made it clear to her that | didn't want you taking control of the company."
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"What? This was your decision?" Marigold jumped up in disbelief. "If you're just covering for her with lies, you're
hopelessly under her spell. If it's true, then, Alaric, I've really raised an ungrateful child!"
"Our management philosophies are fundamentally different, and you're getting older. Isn't it better to enjoy your
retirement?" Alaric's voice grew heated. "Why is it that every tthings don't go your way, you always blame
others instead of reflecting on yourself? Couldn't the reason the higher-ups aren't backing you be mostly
because of your own shortcomings?
"I know how selfish and self-centered you can be. Take Cormac, for example. He's someone you've watched grow
up from a child. He used to call you Aunt when he was little, but when he realized how stern you were, he
switched to calling you Mrs. Knight.
"After all these years, you might not have treated him as your own son, but there should have been some
affection, right? Yet, when the Nash family had their troubles, did you ever feel any compassion for him? No,
instead, you were eager to distance yourself from him. If you can be so heartless to someone you've known
since childhood, how can you expect any better for Stellan? Mom, sometimes you need to know when to stop!"
Alaric was truly enraged, and he let it all out in his anger. After he finished, Marigold felt a pang in her chest from
the emotional weight of his words.
"So, what you're saying is that everything is my fault?" Marigold cried, tears streaming down her face. "Is it
wrong forto care about you? Is it wrong forto want Nexus Innovations to thrive? Is it wrong forto put
everything into the Knight family's well-being?"
Alaric remained silent.
Seeing his lack of response, Marigold knew exactly where he stood. "Fine, Alaric, if that's how you want it, then
I'm done with you. | don't need you to sever our mother-son bond; I'm doing it myself. I'll act like you were never
born. "Enjoy your life with that wretched woman. And don't crunning towhen you're left with nothing. |
don't have a son like you, and if this house ever needsagain, | won't even show up!"
With that, Marigold, in tears, spun on her heel and stormed out. Caspian, Harry, and Elisa, who had been waiting
in the living room, exchanged worried glances as they saw her exit in such distress. Panicking, Caspian, Harry,
and Elisa rushed back to the bedroom, only to find Alaric clutching his chest and coughing violently.
Alaric's anger had triggered a severe reaction; it felt like something was choking him, making it hard to breathe.
The sight of him in such distress frightened them, and they quickly called Stellan.
"What's happening?" Stellan, who was having coffee with Rowena, was alarmed by the news. "He's coughing
badly and seems to be struggling to breathe?"
Stellan was on edge, fearing that Alaric might be on the brink of a serious health crisis.
"Stellan, don't panic. I'll drive," Rowena said urgently, noticing Stellan's rising anxiety.
Rowena sped to the Knight mansion, with Stellan jumping out of the car as soon as it cto a halt. She hurried
into the bedroom.
After examining Alaric, Stellan let out a sigh of relief. It was just a bout of acute stress rather than an imminent
health crisis. She administered an injection to calm him down, and he fell back into a fitful sleep. "Is Mr. Knight
going to be okay?" Rowena asked, her concern evident.
"He'll be fine after a rest," Stellan reassured her. "But what exactly happened?"
Stellan was puzzled since Alaric had been improving steadily; such a crisis shouldn't have occurred.
"It was the bad old man," Elisa explained. "We don't really know what she said to Dad, but she left in tears, and
then Dad ended up like this. We were so scared."
Caspian quickly wrapped his arms around Elisa, trying to offer her comfort.
Rowena thought to herself, ‘Marigold was here, wasn't she? It was obvious that Marigold and Alaric had a
blowout, but judging by the way Alaric was reacting, it must have been more than just a simple argument.'
Stellan remained by Alaric's side, unable to relax, while Rowena stayed quietly in the room, her presence a silent
support.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmWhen Cormac arrived, freshly done with his work, he was taken aback to see Rowena there as well. After
learning what had happened, his concern mirrored theirs.
"Cormac, Rowena, it's getting late. You two should head back now. Alaric was just overwhelmed; a good sleep
should help him calm down," Stellan advised. "Alright, but callif anything changes," Cormac replied.
"Will do."
"Stellan, make sure you get srest too," Rowena added before following Cormac out.
Once they were in the hall, Rowena turned to Cormac and said, "Stellan was really anxious after getting the call
about Mr. Knight. I was worried about her driving in that state, so | drove her car here. My car is still parked at
the café. Would you mind givinga ride?"
