Chapter 429 Birds of a Feather

Ambrose was trying to get a hold of Alaric, but he figured Alaric would dodge his call if he saw his number, so he

used a different one. To his surprise, Stellan picked up. "Looks like Alaric's really serious about getting better this

time, even handed his phone over to Stellan," Tommy, who was chilling next to Ambrose, commented. Ambrose

didn't expect Alaric to actually give his phone to Stellan. The stuff Alaric said yesterday had him on edge, and he

wanted to dig deeper, but now he couldn't reach him.

"Serious about recovery?" Ambrose sneered. "So he can cafterwithout any worries once he's back on

his feet? Last time, he was this close to kicking the bucket, just one last kick and he'd be toast!" Thinking about

that time, Ambrose was fuming. It was the perfect chance to take out both Alaric and Todd, but it all went south.

Tommy, looking down, muttered, "It was my uncle who messed up your plan, Mr. Vale. He's just a soft-hearted

doc, kind and all. Even though he's on the outs with Alaric, he still cares about his health."

"Your uncle's a real busybody, but what's done is done. No point crying over spilled milk." Ambrose plopped

down at his desk, leaned back, closed his eyes, and pinched the bridge of his nose. "I had a hunch lately, making

"You're just burnt out," Tommy said, quickly whipping up a cup of coffee and setting it by Ambrose's hand. "You're

stressing too much. If you could get rid of Alaric, you could finally chill."

Ambrose clenched his teeth. "But the guy just don't die. It's drivingnuts!"

Alaric had survived gnarly injuries in the military, lived with the aftermath for years, and even last time, when he

should've been a goner, he pulled through.

"He's human, not simmortal. He can die," Tommy said slowly. "He didn't die before 'cause my uncle butted

in. Now that I'm on your team, | should help carry the load."

After saying this, Tommy leaned in close to Ambrose's ear and whispered something. Ambrose, hearing his

words, asked skeptically, "You think that'll work?"

"| can't promise, but it might drive a wedge between them. We gotta give it a shot," Tommy said.

"Alright." Ambrose had been feeling super anxious lately. He used to be confident in his moves, but ever since

Denny vanished and Stuart kept breathing down his neck, he'd been on edge. It was a crappy feeling.

The only way to ease his anxiety now was for Alaric to disappear for good. But after everything that had

happened, he realized it was no easy feat.

Stellan was swamped today, her desk buried under a mountain of paperwork.

There was a knock on the door, and while Stellan was buried in documents, she said, "Cin."

She thought it was a subordinate coming to report, but it was Rowena who walked in.

Rowena teased, "Stellan, am | crashing your work party?"

"Of course not." Seeing Rowena, Stellan quickly stood up and warmly pulled her to sit on the sofa.

"Feels like it's been forever since | last saw you. How's the startup coming along?" Stellan asked, genuinely

concerned.

Rowena grinned, "Hasn't kicked off yet. I'm in baby-prep mode, just chilling and doing nothing all day."

Everyone seemed swamped, and Rowena was probably the most laid-back of them all.

"That sounds amazing," Stellan said, eyes lighting up. "When the baby comes, | wanna be the godmother."

"I'm not even pregnant yet," Rowena said, a mix of anxiety and eagerness in her voice.

"It'll happen soon enough." Stellan couldn't help but start envisioning. "When you have the baby, Alaric will be all

better, and Aurora, along with my three kids, will spoil the baby rotten. Your kid's gonna be so lucky." Rowena,

getting a bit excited, said, "My future kid's gonna be super lucky. I'll try to get pregnant soon and have the baby.

Then we can have a wedding with the baby." "No problem," Stellan joked.

"| just wanted to see you. | won't keep you from your work any longer. I'm gonna go find Cormac," Rowena said,

standing up.

"Newlyweds are so sweet," Stellan teased, then added, "Good luck with the baby-making. Letknow as soon

as you get a bun in the oven."

Rowena chuckled, "You'll be the first to know."

"I'll be waiting," Stellan said, watching Rowena leave before getting back to her desk.

Just as she was about to dive back into work, Alaric's phone buzzed with a message.

[Mr. Knight, I called you this morning, but your wife answered. | didn't dare mention what you askedto

investigate. Please callback when you can.]

Seeing the message, Stellan was momentarily stunned, then her brow furrowed. 'What's this about? Is Alaric

digging into something behind my back?"

Stellan looked at the number that had called earlier. She was tempted to call back but decided it was better to

ask Alaric directly at home.

Alaric was feeling pretty good today, so he wasn't stuck in bed. He headed to the study, fired up the computer,

and pulled up the surveillance footage of Far East International that Harry had set up.

He could clearly see Ambrose's office and what Ambrose and Tommy were up to, but he could only watch, not

hear their convo.

Even though he couldn't hear them, just seeing those two scheming together was enough to know they were up

to no good.

Alaric snorted, then grabbed a book from the shelf, savoring a rare moment of peace to read. He read for a

while, then glanced up at the surveillance, feeling pretty content.

Hearing a knock on the door, Alaric quickly turned off the monitor and said, "Cin."

It was the maid, Hestia Sharp, who had previously served Marigold at the Knight Manor. Just like Joe, she had

been with Marigold for many years.

After Marigold passed away, Joe left the Knight Manor, while Hestia was transferred here.

"Mr. Knight," Hestia called out, bowing deeply, looking distressed.

"What are you doing?" Alaric was startled by Hestia's unusual behavior.

"I'm here to confess something. If | don't say it, | feel like I'm betraying Mrs. Marigold Knight," Hestia said, her

voice heavy with remorse and pain. "When Mrs. Marigold Knight fell down the stairs, | was on the second floor. |

saw it happen. Mrs. Marigold Knight was pushed by Mrs. Stellan Knight!"
